Book Review: How Charts Can Help You In The Stock Market

By Alex • May 8th, 2008 • Category: Featured Story

The book I will review today is “How Charts Can Help You In The Stock Market” by William Jiler. I actually got the 1962 version off ebay for less than $10. Basically this book was one of the best I have read on technical analysis. It was short and sweet while explaining everything thoroughly.

Some of the topics covered were trend lines, support and resistance, flags and pennants, triangles, double bottoms and tops, cups with handles (he calls them saucers), gaps, and v-bottoms. Some pretty quality stuff in here. The format he uses is he defines and explains the pattern or concept and then provides several examples at the end of the section. The funny thing I noticed was that with the book being written in the 60s, a lot of other authors have drawn from this to complete their work. The main example being How to Make Money In Stocks by William O’Neil (who specifically mentions this book in his).

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking to get more in depth into technical analysis. It is easy to understand and read, and has some excellent material!
